Mario Caroli flutist
Mario Caroli was born in Italy in 1974. He studied with Annamaria Morini and was deeply influenced by Manuela Wiesler. At the age of 22 he won the coveted "Kranichsteiner Musikpreis" in Darmstadt.
Since then he has pursued a successful career as a solo flutist. The program design and the breadth of his repertoire create a rich and complex musical personality. His natural transition from contemporary music to early music is a natural one. He refuses to specialise and shatters the clichés attached to his instrument. This passionate philosopher (Doctorate with a thesis on Nietzsche's "Antichrist") has become the favourite soloist of today's greatest composers. He is well known for sifting through the repertoire and for his audacious excursions into the most extreme pages of literature. Many new compositions for flute have been entrusted to him and dedicated to him by Dillon, Fedele, Ferneyhough, Gervasoni, Hosokawa, Kurtág, Jolas, Mantovani, Saariaho, Stroppa, Yuasa, among others. Among them is Sciarrino with whom he has developed a very special relationship. He performs with the greatest orchestras in the world (Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Konzerthaus, Royal Festival Hall in London, Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Lincoln Center in New York, Les Percussions de Strasbourg, the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart...), under the direction of the greatest conductors (Pierre Boulez, Peter Eötvös, Hiroshi Wakasugi...).
His vast discography includes several monographs devoted to the flute and is regularly broadcast by the most important radio stations. Her recordings of Jolivet and Sciarrino have received the most important recognitions from international critics: "Recommandé" (Repertoire), "Coup de Coeur de l'Académie Charles Cros", "A ! "(Anaclase), "Eccezionale! "(Musica), " Best recording of the year " (Musicweb international), " Best CD of the month " (Amadeus and CD Classics).
In addition to his activity as a soloist, Mario Caroli has worked many times, as a performer on stage, with Trisha Brown's dance company.
A renowned pedagogue, Mario Caroli is a full professor at the Hochschule for Musik in Freiburg im Breisgau, whose flute class is recognized worldwide, lives in Strasbourg and speaks six languages fluently.
