To create "Electric Telegraphy 24 May 1844", I utilized samples of a coin dropping, a Christian radio station, riding a train, and other field recordings, as well as synthesized tones to create a "forward" version of the track. Then, the "forward" version of the track was layered with its time-reversed (and stereo-reversed) counterpart. Therefore, the audio of the track is a palindrome.
The title references the first telegraph message ever sent by Samuel Morse, on May 24, 1844: “What hath God wrought?”. Using organ samples and a sample from a gospel song written in the late 19th century, I attempt to contrast a traditional Christian worldview with the rapidly accelerating developments in information and science around the turn of the century.
