UISGE BEATHA [ɯʃkʲe ‘bɛha] - A Guide to Flavours
for double bass clarinet solo (2015)
Uisge Beatha (pronounced: [ɯʃkʲe ‘bɛha], also uschkeba) means “water of life”. My piece describes the various whisky flavours in terms of sound and transforms the taste experience of liquid gold into a listening experience for solo double bass clarinet.
It is recommended to enjoy a matching whisky with each movement!
1 the smooth flowing one
2 nutty undertones
3 delicate spice and a whiff of smoke
4 mizuwari - mixed with water
5 with a hint of sea salt
6 cigar box, smoky
7 angels' share
8 peat monster
