Open Calls

The piece is an attempt to push the boundaries of the oboe’s technique and limitations. The musical material as well as the overall form depict this exploration : a gradual processing from monophony to polyphony, and then from polyphony to harmony.
After a short introduction that features the main components of the music, a rhythmical process made of various “grooves” leads to a sort of tribal dance, whose climax is a breaking point in the musical narrative, suggesting another perception of time. A complex drone emerges and lets an immersive environnement unfold, on top of which some fragments of the initial material reappear as souvenirs.
