Tessellations draws inspiration from M.C Escher’s Metamorphoses and explores how its conflict between stasis and movement can be perceived through sound. The piece is based around a series of layered tiling canons which are applied to both pitch and rhythm and distributed across the various combinations of the ensemble comprising of a clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor trombone, bass recorder, vibraphone, piano, violin, electric guitar and bass guitar all of which are amplified.
