“Madrigal V - Candelária” is the fifth piece in a cycle of seven works called “Madrigali”, for string quartet and performance, which investigate contemporary possibilities for counterpoint, modal sonorities and narrative structures within the musical form.
The title of this piece was taken from a church located in downtown Rio de Janeiro, where in 1993 eight children were killed and dozens wounded by policemen at night, as they slept on the sidewalks.
