Founded in 1996 in Strasbourg by conductor Jean-Philippe Wurtz, LINEA is an ensemble of international reputation that has performed in the biggest festivals and has played, among others, in New York, Paris, Chicago, Seoul, Budapest, Brussels, Bilbao, Berlin, Huddersfield, Geneva, Lyon, Royaumont, Prague... Its concerts have been broadcast on radio stations such as France Musique, the BBC and Südwestfunk.
LINEA shows strong support for young composers through commissioned works, composition and performance masterclasses and concerts. The ensemble also stands out for its intercultural approach, by presenting repertoires from other continents and by developing exchanges with foreign ensembles from all over the world.
From its beginnings, LINEA knew how to win the trust of today's great composers and fruitful collaborations have been initiated with Peter Eötvös, Brian Ferneyhough, Philippe Manoury, Helmut Lachenmann or Raphaël Cendo to name but a few.
LINEA's mission to promote musical creation is based on strong values:
> An eco-responsible creation
> Parity at the heart of the action
> A transcultural and open artistic creation project
> Training, transmission and mediation to offer support to young composers and performers
Through its long-term actions such as its concerts, recordings and residencies, the ensemble ensures that these values are always in mind and that musical creation shines in its Alsacian territory and on a much larger scale, thanks in particular to digital means.
