Hugo Lau, a Hong Kong native, is an accomplished clarinettist celebrated for his artistry, versatility, and expertise in both modern and historical clarinet performance. As a performer, he has appeared in prestigious venues such as the Barbican Centre, Cadogan Hall, Wigmore Hall, and St Martin-in-the-Fields, captivating audiences with his expressive musicianship and technical brilliance.

Hugo’s dynamic career includes collaborations with leading orchestras and ensembles, including the City of London Sinfonia, English Touring Opera, Macao Orchestra, and Ulster Orchestra. In addition to his work on modern clarinet, Hugo is a sought-after performer on historical clarinet, having appeared with esteemed period ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and The Hanover Band. His versatility across both modern and historical instruments reflects his deep understanding of musical tradition and innovation.

As a chamber musician, Hugo has distinguished himself through collaborations with his wind quintet, Pacific Winds, which reached the finals of the Royal Over-Seas League Competition in 2020. He has also performed at renowned festivals, including the Taipei Music Academy and Festival, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, and Domaine Forget Music Academy, working alongside world-class musicians and broadening his artistic scope.

In addition to his performance career, Hugo is a passionate music educator. He was served as the Open Academy Fellow at the Royal Academy of Music and the Trainee Support Musician at Wigmore Hall in 2023/24. Hugo integrates his performance expertise into his educational work, engaging in projects such as Wigmore Hall Learning Chamber Tots, the Awards for Young Musicians Attune Projects, and Music for Life, a program supporting individuals living with dementia.
