Drew Flieder (b. 1995)

Drew Flieder is a composer who explores a diverse range of musical forms and mediums. His formal studies began at the Eastman School of Music, where he studied under the guidance of distinguished mentors, including Robert Morris, Oliver Schneller, and Matt Barber. During his time at Eastman, Drew's computer music composition, titled Saṃsāra, received recognition and earned him the prestigious Bernard Rogers Memorial Prize.

Drew's compositions have reached audiences across the United States. His computer music composition, Modules, is on the brink of a premiere in Germany.

Currently, Drew is immersed in the world of academia, pursuing graduate studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara. Here, he continues to refine his craft under the mentorship of JoAnn Kuchera-Morin and Curtis Roads.

Beyond the realm of composition, Drew is a dedicated researcher in the field of mathematical music theory. Inspired by the trailblazing methods of Xenakis, Stockhausen, Babbitt, and Cage, he embarked on a project titled Tools for Worldmaking. Completed in 2022, this innovative initiative draws from the insights of notable figures like Mazzola, Carnap, and Aristotle to establish a universal theoretical foundation for conceiving new musical concepts.

Drew's musical vision transcends the confines of sound; it ventures into the realm of the spiritual. He perceives music not merely as a medium for expressing emotion but as a means to structure the mental conditions that give rise to emotion. Consequently, he envisions music as a pathway to cultivate a purified awareness of reality.
