Born in Bolzano on June 20, 1989, Alessio Ferrante studied composition with Heinrich Unterhofer and Luca Macchi at the "C. Monteverdi" Conservatory in Bolzano, and later with Carlo Forlivesi at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart.
Alessio Ferrante has received recognition in international competitions, including the second prize in the “Works for Choir Organ and Voices" category at the International Composition Competition #SaintSulpice2021 and the Giacomo Leopardi Award at the International Composers' Competition “Unique Forms of Continuity in Space”. He was also a finalist in the Opera Oggi competition organized by the Theaters of the OperaLombardia Circuit in 2016, and he participated in the European Composers' Professional Development Programme in 2010.
His compositions have been performed by orchestras and ensembles at both national and international levels. Notable performers include Ensemble 10:10 conducted by Clark Rundell from Liverpool, Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento conducted by Pietari Inkinen, conTakt Percussion Group, Sequenza 9.3 vocal ensemble conducted by Catherine Simonpietri, MotoContrario ensemble, Percussion Group Moitié, El Cimarrón ensemble conducted by Clemens Heil, and soloists such as Ulpiana Aliaj, Roberta Gottardi, Caroline Mayrhofer, Teofil Milenkovic, Roberto Gander, Miyamoto Yasuko and Francesca Ajossa.
His works have been featured in prestigious concert seasons and music festivals, including the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Contemporanea (Udine), Transart, Contemporary Music Festival of Bolzano, Mittelfest (Cividale del Friuli), ReMusica Festival (Prishtina), the concert season of the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, Amici della Musica di Padova and Gustav Mahler Music Weeks.
