As Ear to the Earth Ensemble, we are very excited to reach out to composers from all around the world: we are looking for new repertoire!

In April 2025, we will have a residency in Italy in partnership with Cooperativa Sociale il Visconte di Mezzago - BLOOM. There, we will prepare a new program, work on our performative skills, and play a number of concerts at BLOOM and other venues in the area.

Thus, we are now looking for new compositions that we can work on during this residency and add to our repertoire. We would love to hear your voice!

What are we looking for?

Up to three short compositions can be submitted, of which at least one must include the entire ensemble (sextet). If multiple are submitted of varying instrumentation, the ensemble piece is the only piece that will be worked on during the workshops. In all cases, one piece will be selected per composer submission. The optional other pieces for smaller chamber music settings or solo performers will still be given feedback, and kept into consideration for recordings and performances, becoming part of our archives.

Compositions written in the past - up to five years ago - can be submitted, but we are preferring pieces that have not yet been recorded/published.

Artistic vision

The compositions must have a connection to the environment or environmental issues. The connection can, however, be expressed in personal and creative ways (We encourage you to be as creative as you want!) Check out our previous work and mission on our website.

In line with our mission, the compositions should aim to include at least one of the following:

-explore music as a vehicle for expressing the complex emotions tied to the climate crisis
-promote alternative ways of listening, and use collaboration as a way to address the climate crisis, celebrate nature, and foster community.
-blur boundaries between audience and performer through audience interaction or spatialization or other means.
-Include extra-musical elements (theatrical, performative, etc.) that enhance the musical elements/purpose of the work.
-Identify the significance of community and the realities/challenges that come with the climate crisis in a musical context/form/methodology.
-A compelling compositional praxis that includes environmentalism/nature.

Feel free to focus on one item of the list or to include more of them in your work. A creative approach to them leading to an artistically satisfying result will be valued.
