The Begüm Aslan Composition Prize 2025: Singing Double Bass is now open for submissions! We invite composers from around the world to submit original compositions specifically written for solo double bass and coloratura soprano voice. This competition provides a unique opportunity for composers to create groundbreaking works for these two challenging instruments played simultaneously by one performer.

Competition Details:

Eligibility: Open to composers worldwide, of all ages and nationalities.

Composition Requirements:
Duration: Approximately 5 minutes.
Instrumentation: Solo 4-string double bass and coloratura soprano voice (vocal range C3 to G6 max.) The piece must be performable by a single musician playing the double bass and singing at the same time. No electronics are allowed.
The vocal part can be in any language (including contemporary or experimental text) and must be legible and clear for the performer. If using a non-Latin script, an IPA transcription must be provided. Score Format: Submit in PDF format (handwritten or notation software). Optional MIDI recording.

Application Fee:
€30 (non-refundable) to cover administrative costs and competition organization. Payment via PayPal or bank transfer.

Prizes:
First Prize: €600 monetary award.
Recognition: Five finalists will be selected for professional exposure.
Professional Recording: The six selected composers (First Prize + 5 finalists) will have their works professionally recorded by Begüm Aslan and released on streaming platforms.
Performances: The six selected works will be performed at least three concerts during the upcoming season 2026.
The number of prize winners is subject to change if necessary.

Submission Process:

Deadline: May 18, 2025.
Submissions will be evaluated anonymously. Composers must use a unique 5-character code for their submission.
