Michael Bennett, Organist and Composer, lives and breathes music that pushes the boundaries and searches for new, powerful, and bold expression. As an Organist, after studying piano since the age of 4, Michael picked up the organ at age 9 and started his studies with Peter Conte, organist of the historic Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia. At the age of 15 years old, Michael was invited to study in the summer 2015 in France, studying with Johann Vexo and Jean-Baptiste Robin in Nancy and Royaumont. Michael returned to France in 2017 to France to study there for the summer. Michael has performed in historic venues in France and the United States such as Nancy Cathedral, La Chapelle Royale du Versailles, Royaumont Abbaye, noumourus Concerts at the Wanamaker Grand Court Organ, The Curtis Institute of Music, the Baryshnikov Center for the Performing Arts, The Segerstrom Center for the Performing Arts, and Carnigie Hall, amoung others. Michael was a National YoungArts Finalist in Organ Performance and Composition, 2016, and received first place in the Queens, NY, AGO Organ Competition. As a composer, Michael regards himself as "hyper-spectral", using the incredible musical language of specteralism and pushing it further with new sounds and more powerful expression. He studied for 4 years in the Juilliard Pre-College Division under Dr. Andrew Thomas. Michael has written many works for orchestra, ensemble, ensemble with electronics, large ensemble and electronics, electronics, multimedia sound installation, chamber, solo, organ, and choral, that have been commissioned and performed by performers and ensembles such as the Columbia New Music Ensemble, The Juilliard School Pre-College Orchestra, and the New York Youth Symphony. Michael's compositions have been performed at The Juilliard School, the Baryshnikov Center for the Performing Arts, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute where Michael Participated as their ASCAP Composition Scholar after receiving the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award. In addition, Michael was awarded Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award, and performed on NPR's From the Top. In 2015, Michael received the Davidson Fellow Scholarship for his achievements as an Organist and Composer. Michael is currently taking a gap year before he pursues music studies in France
