Ben McHugh (b. 1989) is an Irish composer currently based in Stockholm, Sweden.
He holds a B.Mus. International and an M.A.(first class) in composition both from NUI Maynooth and has studied with Jesse Ronneau,
Martin O'Leary & Ví­t Zouhar and has participated in master classes and workshops with Peter Ablinger, Kevin Volans,
Seppo Gruendler & Laurent Pottier both at home and abroad.

He has worked with the internationally renowned bassoonist Pascal Gallois, Irish virtuoso clarinetist Paul Roe,
the RTE quartet in residence ConTempo, Irish violinist Cora Venus Lunny, ChristChurch organist David Bremner
and the award-winning percussionist Alex Petcu amongst others.

He is represented by the Irish Contemporary Music Centre (CMC), the Association of Irish Composers(AIC),
the ISCM, is a member of the Irish Composers Collective and works at The Electronic Music Studio(EMS) in Stockholm, Sweden.
His music also appears on the Belgian netlabel TapeSafe.

He has had performances around the island of Ireland in places such as The National Concert Hall, Christ-Church Cathedral, Hilltown New Music Festival, SAW festival,
on RTÉ Lyric FM and in various galleries and spaces around Dublin including the Back Loft & the Oonagh Young Gallery,
DIT Rathmines, Trinity College, Maynooth University, St. Finn Barre's cathedral, Cork, University of Ulster, Derry and the Crescent Arts Centre in Belfast.
He has written for many varied ensembles from solo and chamber to orchestral works including electronics(live DSP, synthesized, & spatial audio for fixed media).

As an improviser he has performed in Ireland and Czech Republic with artists and composers such as Jesse Ronneau, Han-Earl Park,
Seppo Gründler, The Quiet Club, Fuaim Maynooth, Susan Geaney, Eoin Smith, Piaras Hoban and JinSun Lim.

Ben McHugh works with software such as Csound, MaxMSP, OpenMusic, Processing, PureData, Spear & Supercollider.

Apart from music and sound technology Ben is interested in photography, rock climbing and winter sports.
