Stop 5 • Frankfurt/Main
Following the try-outs in April and further rehearsals this summer in Frankfurt, we reconvened in Frankfurt on September 4th for the final rehearsals before the results of the work were presented at the Gaudeamus Muziekweek in Utrecht on September 8, featuring the world premieres of the new pieces.
Stop 4 • Royaumont
After the stop in Frankfurt (DE) with IEMA-Ensemble, in Bobbio and Milan (IT) with IDEA/Divertimento Ensemble, in IRCAM’s festival ManiFeste 2018 (FR), the ULYSSES Ensemble gathered from 15 to 20 July 2018 in Royaumont (FR).
During these intense five days, the young musicians rehearsed in Royaumont under the direction Gregory Vajda...
Viitasaari, one of the summer’s closer-to-Polar-Circle camps of contemporary music! A Finnish city of about 6800 inhabitants, north of the capital Helsinki by some 400 km, is since 1982 for some very peculiar reason the home of the only annual classical contemporary music festival in Finland, including a Summer Academy...
Stop 3 • Paris
After the stops in Frankfurt with IEMA-Ensemble in May, in Bobbio and Milan with IDEA/Divertimento Ensemble at the beginning of June, two workshops followed one after the other at IRCAM’s festival ManiFeste 2018, from 18 to 30 June. During these two weeks, the young musicians had the opportunity to rehearse at CENTQUATRE-Paris, an atypical space for free artistic practice, residencies, production and promotion for the public and artists from all over the world.
Stop 2 • Bobbio and Milan
Everybody is tired, but smiles are on everyone’s face. Long hugs and cheers in the warm summer night, after the concert in Milan and after some beers. See you soon in Paris, or in Royaumont, and then in Utrecht. Let’s get some rest, then let’s plunge in another full immersion in new music.
Stop 1 • Frankfurt/Main
The ULYSSES Ensemble, created by the ULYSSES Network, is an ephemeral chamber ensemble of thirty young European performers ages 18 to 30 who have been selected especially for the occasion. Together they will tour five major European contemporary music events and have the opportunity to work with leading conductors, composers and performers on key repertoire and new works.
The first stop of the ULYSSES Ensemble is Frankfurt/Main (DE) where the ULYSSES Ensemble members meet and cooperate with the members of the IEMA-Ensemble (International Ensemble Modern Academy).
