HERE WE GO!

THE CALL IS NOW OPEN!

Inspired by the grand tours of classical musicians travelling through Europe and the goals of training and enriching the practices of young musicians, the ULYSSES Network brings together 13 European institutions for the promotion and professionalization of young composers. With the ULYSSES Ensemble, the ULYSSES Network reached a new peak last year, concentrating its efforts on young performers in the domain of new music. The ULYSSES Ensemble will tour from June through July 2019, visiting several European academies (Snape Maltings, ManiFeste, Fondation Royaumont).
With the support of the ULYSSES Network, supported by the European Union’s Creative Europe program.

The ULYSSES Ensemble consists of 15 musicians: 1 flute, 1 oboe, 1 clarinet, 1 bassoon, 1 horn, 1 trumpet, 1 trombone, 1 piano, 2 percussions, 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1 double bass.
3 musicians will join the ensemble to participate in 1 or 2 stops: 1 clarinet (Stops 2 & 3), 1 saxophone (Stop 3), 1 harp (Stop 1)

• Applicants must be born after January 1, 1987
• Applicants must reside in Europe (no travel fees outside Europe can be reimbursed)
• Applicants must be able to speak and understand English
• APPLICANTS SELECTED FOR THE ENSEMBLE MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL STOPS. EVERY TIME, MUSICIANS ARRIVE THE DAY BEFORE AND DEPART THE DAY AFTER. No late arrivals or early departures are permitted. No absences during these periods are permitted.
• Travel fees incurred within Europe, housing expenses (double or triple room depending on the stop), and meals (restaurant, catering, or perdiems depending on the stop) will be paid for applicants selected for the ensemble
• Applicants selected for the ensemble have no registration fees to pay

Stop 1 – Snape Maltings

The ULYSSES Ensemble will have a residency to prepare a programme of contemporary repertoire for a performance in the Aldeburgh Festival. Detailed information will be published soon.

Stop 2 – ManiFeste-2019
Monday, June 17 — Saturday, June 22, 2019
Paris (France)
Educational Advisor: Matthias Pintscher (conductor), musicians from the Ensemble intercontemporain
German conductor and composer Matthias Pintscher will lead a master class for the ULYSSES Ensemble with the complicity of the soloists from the Ensemble intercontemporain who will advise the young musicians and perform works with them. First day will be dedicated to personal work and section rehearsals with musicians from the Ensemble intercontemporain.

Stop 3 – Fondation Royaumont

The final stop in the ULYSSES Ensemble 2019 journey will take place at the Royaumont Foundation in France. Here the ensemble will work on a range of works from the contemporary repertoire including Stefano Gervasoni piece 's Su un arco di bianco, a work the ensemble has already seen and performed during Stop 2, and a new commission by the young composer Sunyeong Pak (Voix Nouvelles 2018 Laureate). French conductor Jean-Phillipe Wurtz will conduct the ensemble through a week of rehearsals culminating in a public presentation on Saturday, July 13.

HOW TO APPLY

 
You must submit 3 audio (mp3) or video (mp4) files (no more than 100MB=12,5Mo)
- One file must be a video you briefly introduce yourself and perform a 20th or 21st century solo work for your instrument
- One file must be an audio file or a video you perform a solo "classical music" work (before 20th century) for your instrument. For instruments that do not include such a repertoire, please submit a solo or soloist work of your choice
- One file must be an audio or video file of your choice

Other documents to submit IN ENGLISH:
- Short biography
- CV
- Cover Letter where you explain your motivation for joining the ULYSSES ensemble and different stops
- Headshot picture, that will be used for access badge
- ID or Passport
Do not forget to read carefully Consent and Release Form to be accepted.
